Im trying the home made seed tape project. I still suspect Im using too many seeds, but this method, though tedious may be better than my usual habit of using a whole packet of seeds on a four foot row. Thanks to members of the Lawton Organic Gardening group (please join!) and to the MIgardener for the inspiration. Youll only need a few inexpensive supplies. Toilet paper, the thinner the better Flour Water Toothpicks A straw cut at an angle Tape measure Mix the flour and water in roughly equal volumes to make a past Measure your toilet paper to the width of your bed. I folded mine in half. I broke off the end of a toothpick to make a blunt end. Dip the toothpick into the paste to get a manageable drop on the end. Make little dabs of paste as far apart as recommended spacing for the seed. Mine may be too close. I used the straw for the first tape. the second tape went much faster when I used the moistened end of a toothpick to pick up a few at a time and dab them onto the glue. Once done, fold over the tissue paper to seal. Carefully move the tape to a cool dry airy place to dry for a few hours. Roll up the tape and store as desired until planting time. Come spring, place on a prepared bed, cover with the correct depth of soil for the seed, water, and watch it grow!
