Im trying to figure something out and maybe you can all help me. It has to do with the whole Ferguson shooting mess. What Im trying to figure out is why the “hands up, dont shoot” message is still going on after being disproven from the evidence. Look, I can understand if some people want to draw attention to isolated cases of police brutality that may still exist from time to time, or even if people want to argue that some minorities are treated differently in some cases by some police officers here and there.....thats fine if you want to examine possible cases of inequality of treatment here or there. But these arguments have NOTHING to do with the shooting death of Michael Brown. Nothing at all. And the facts of the case have now proven this, yet for some reason, people keep “honoring” Michael Brown with the “hands up, dont shoot” gesture. On Sunday, 5 of the St. Louis Rams players took to the field holding their hands up in “surrender”. The St. Louis Police Association as well as the National President of the Fraternal Order of Police are furious, demanding the NFL apologize and fine these players. So far, the NFL refuses to do so, although they DO fine players for wearing political or religious messages on their clothing during press conferences, wearing unauthorized headphones during pre-game warmups, etc. Miami Dolphins player Don Jones was fined and suspended when he tweeted “OMG” in response to seeing openly gay player Michael Sam kiss his boyfriend on national TV. These “hands up, dont shoot” t-shirts and posters are selling all over the country and the gesture is being made by thousands of protesters at rallies across the country as well. Just last night, several African American members of the U.S. Congress took to the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives with the “hands up” gesture. Theres only one problem. Its all based on a lie. There were 3 separate autopsies done on Michael Brown, including one ordered by the Obama Administration and one ordered by the family of Michael Brown and all 3 Medical Examiners agreed with the basic facts of the official autopsy report, which showed that Michael Browns hands were likely NOT raised in a surrender position when he was shot, based on the trajectory of the bullets. It also shows he has gun residue in a thumb gunshot wound, consistent with extremely close range or direct contact with the gun when it was fired, indicating a struggle for the gun DID go on. It shows he was lunging forward when the final shot was fired, again, based on the trajectory of the bullet. The eyewitnesses who claimed Michael Brown was “shot while surrendering” were discredited by the Grand Jury for the inconsistencies in their stories and other claims they made that were directly proven false by the autopsies, like claiming he was shot from behind (no rear entry wounds), shot while laying on the ground (proven false by the autopsies), shot dead from Officer Wilson while he supposedly was sitting in the car, shooting out the window, etc. These “eyewitness” claims were thoroughly discredited, however, the majority of eyewitnesses (all of whom are black) testified they saw Michael Brown wrestling with Officer Wilson, take off running, then turn around and charge back at Wilson when he was shot. No surrendering, no “hands up, dont shoot” execution style murder. Yet, for some reason, countless people are refusing to acknowledge the actual scientific, medical, forensic and eyewitness account facts of the case and are instead still pushing the “hands up, dont shoot” lie. Why? Look, I suppose I could understand some teen protesters who havent taken the time to read the reports, but were talking about United States Congressmen and women, NFL players, college professors, TV pundits and analysts, etc. These people have no excuse. They have to know the truth, dont they? So why are they still pushing this lie? We now know and the eyewitness accounts as well as the forensic, medical and scientific facts of the case have proven that Michael Brown was a 6 4”, 290 pound young man who robbed a liquor store, was confronted by Darren Wilson, attacked him, punched him repeatedly in the face, tried to wrestle his gun away from him, was shot in the thumb while trying to grab the gun, took off running, then when Officer Wilson chased him, Brown stopped, turned around and charged at the officer, refusing Wilsons repeated orders to stop, being then shot several times as he got closer to Wilson until finally being killed. Do U.S. Congresspeople really not know this? Whats going on here? Are all these protesters in denial of the facts? Do they honestly believe Michael Brown was shot while surrendering and that all the evidence is wrong? Are they that delusional? Do they know the truth but are deliberately pushing this “hands up, dont shoot” mantra, knowing its a lie, but thinking they are serving a greater cause somehow? Whats going on? I hear African Americans saying “You dont know what its like to be black and be treated differently by the police”, to which I reply “What does that have to do with Michael Brown?” Do you really believe Brown was and innocent “gentle giant”, executed while surrendering? Is that really what you believe? Do you refuse to see him as a thug and a criminal who attacked and beat a police officer, went for his gun and charged at him with intent to harm and/or kill him? Do you honestly, really not see the facts of this case? Im not denying there arent OTHER cases that involve bad cops and Im not denying the existence of racism (on BOTH sides), but those other cases have nothing to do with the “Michael Brown – hands up, dont shoot” lie. This lie is fueling more distrust and racial tension and it is irresponsible and inexcusable. I would also argue President Obama has a responsibility to correct the record as well and call out these protesters, NFL players, pundits, professors and the Congressional Black Caucus for stirring up more racial tension and distrust of police based on the now disproven “hands up, dont shoot” lie that Michael Brown was executed while surrendering.
