Im up and writting on FB and wanting to express my saddness in the loss of another GREAT friend, family man, military man, and mentor to the USAF Academy Wings of Blue; Parachuting Organization. DAVID HOLMES, AKA DOC has passed into GODs Hand. If I miss spell or not write a sentence correctly I hope you will ignore it. I was introduced to Doc in 1983 while trying out for a posistion at the USAF Parachuting Team, we called ourselfs WOBs. Doc, was a USMC guy and a professor at Nevada University. He and his wife Barb had a child that had some physical problems and there was never a day that she wasnt mentioned....He and Barb adhored her: she passed sometime prior to Doc. I cant say enough abot this man; he was such a GREAT PERSON and ment so much to us at the USAFA. He and just a few were inducted into our organization and was always their to support us in our activities. One such was when I was appointed as the Vehicle Operational Personal. It was not a glamorus posistion but in the military you must take care of everything and maintain it. So on a week he was visiting the USAFA I had to clean and polish a vehicle (six pax). This was on a weekend when everyone else was off doing whatever. Doc, came over to our home on base and assisted in washing, waxiing and detailing with me and my wife. The vehicle came in third place against all the other squadrons on the base. Doc, was also a FANTASTIC person to SKYDIVE with. He was SO RELAXED in the sky that you just couldnt but relax while jumping with him. I cant thank him enough for the instructional and mental ability to become a better jumper back in those days. Some of you know me by the SHORTY SHORTS that I wear. Doc was the guy that introduced me to those MARINE GREEN RUNNING SHORTS, that most everyone knows at the USAFAcademy as Chutie shorts. My middle name is CHUTE. I cant stand those shorts that fall around the knees. If you go to a military base you WONT see a formation running around in long shorts!!! The Skydiving world and the university world are going to have a HUGE hole that will never be filled with the passing of DOC! GOD BLESS YOU DOC I AM MISSING YOU AND LOVE YOU. Your friend, West C.
