Im very pleased that the City heeded our calls and reversed its decision to build a Close to Home juvenile justice facility for criminal offenders in a residential community in the middle of Staten Island. Housing troubled youth from across the City at a minimum security facility in a neighborhood filled with religious institutions, schools, and families with young children is an unsafe, unfair, and irresponsible decision, and Im glad that the residents of Willowbrook wont have to worry about the safety of their children and their community.
