Im very, very honored that Helena, Robert, Tanya, and John have asked me to rebuild Kevins bicycle that he used for the 2014 leg of his trip. Being an avid cyclist and representative for Team Errace p/b DSO Manufacturing, one of the first things Kevin and I spoke about when we were first introduced was bikes and his 2013 trip. When he described the route he and Tanya had taken and the bicycle he used I was in disbelief, only to be further astounded when I discovered they had done it with little to no previous touring experience, let alone cycling experience. Kevin told me about his planned 2014 trip and I promised him then and there that I would do everything I could to get him on a better, more suited, bike. He and I took turns looking for frames, comparing different options, but it was an unusually set-up Trek in Robs garage that ended up being the right fit all along. Kev and I took our bikes over to Robs and swapped the steel Raleigh he was riding for this one. Initially we were only going to go straight back to his place, but at his insistence I took him on my training ride for the day. Now one thing to be noted about this bike is the goofy time-trial handlebars that it is set up with. Handlebars like these are made for triathletes and time-trialists to maximize their aerodynamic position, they are difficult to ride, and even harder to draft behind someone with. I warned Kev against using them on this first ride, but by the end he was locked in, drafting inches off my wheel in the aeros, comfortable as could be. Ive ridden with lots and lots of cyclists, and never have I ever seen anyone pick up a skill like that so quickly, but that was Kevin Adorno, kid was full of surprises. So this is the bike. It was disassembled for all the wrong reasons and I intend to rebuild it with the love that I have for Kevin and his family. Best wishes to everyone Kevins life touched. #RAGE
