Im working on a story called Cursed. Im not sure whether itll be a novel or a novella, but it is the first story about a town called Pleasantview. Technically, it is the second story that Im working on about the town of Pleasantview. I already wrote a novel called Pleasantview, but in the history of the town, Cursed is the first story. The novel Pleasantview is actually about the ninth story in the history of the town, but these will not be a series, per se, theyll mostly be stand-alone stories that can be read in any order. There will be a few that will work better if you read them in a certain order, but theyll still be stand-alone stories. Anyway, Cursed is the first story in the history of the town, it takes place in 1864. This will more than likely be a wild story, Im certain of it in fact, because by the time it is over, the residents will move the entire town to the other side of the lake. In other words, its going to be really nasty. The story will leave a ghost town in its wake. The ghost town will coming to play in later stories. I originally tried to write this story a couple of years ago, but walked away from it after about 60 pages. I now see why I walked away from it, I had the wrong damn story, hell, I even had the wrong title. I now think that I have the right story, at least the part of it that I can see seems right. I know that I have the right title, no doubt about that, because the title works on two levels. The title will be fitting for the story, and it is also a fitting description for the town of Pleasantview, the town is cursed. The town of Pleasantview has had a violent past, starting all the way back in 1864, and lasting all the way through 2004 and beyond. The past has been bad, theres no denying that, but being able to look at its future as I can. The future of Pleasantview aint looking too bright either. Its future maybe worse than its past. If I could offer any advice to the residence of Pleasantview, it would be this. Pack a bag. On second thought, screw the damn bag, run as fast and as far away as you can, maybe youll live. I know the town has a hell of the view and all, a view to die for you could say, but do you honestly want to do that, die for the view. Me, I think not. I can find a view just as nice elsewhere, and it would be much safer. Thats just my take on the matter, no view is worth dying for, not even one that is spectacular, breathtaking, and a view that you can get lost in. You can always find a nice view, in a town that isnt cursed say, then things would be safer for you. Anyway, moving on. I visit the town often, it does have a hell of a view, but I keep my eyes and ears open when Im in Pleasant. One can never be too careful. I hope to have Cursed finished and published sometime early next year, but Ill give you a teaser from it. This should get the old ticker pumping. The section is called, Screams In The Night. It might leave you screaming for more, or maybe thats, screaming for no more. I always get the two confused. **** Copyright 2014 by E. T. Brother Screams In The Night The night is dark and moonless, things are mostly quiet in the town of Pleasantview, just about everyone is asleep by ten oclock. It is a weeknight and five oclock comes mighty early. Theres been a little drinking and a bit of foolery earlier, that is to be expected, because Pleasantview is a mining town. The miners work hard, but they also drink hard. By ten oclock most folks are in bed, sleeping. There are a few still awake, but they are mostly quiet. Things remain quiet until midnight, the witching hour, then things begin to change and change in a hurry, but not for the better. As the clock on front of the courthouse changes over to midnight, the moon finally shows itself in the sky, it is bright red, blood red, the moon appears to be covered in blood. Seconds after midnight, after the moon appears, the ground begins to shake violently, and people begin to wake up all around town and in the surrounding area. The ground continues to shake for 30 seconds, then it ceases as quickly as it began. As the ground stop shaking, a noise begins that is heard all around town. It is low at first, but it begins to intensify quickly. The noises is coming from the ground, it is a scream, and it is clearly heard all around town and in the surrounding area. The scream is soon joined by another scream, then another, and another. More screams continue to join the first, it quickly becomes hundreds of screams, then thousands. The ground begins to shake as violently as before, but this time it shakes because of the number and volume of the screams. It is as if the ground has opened up and the residents of Pleasantview are hearing the screams of hell. Of course, the ground is not the only thing that is shaking because of the screams, most of the residents shake in fear, some even faint. A number of the residents, being God-fearing people, believe it must be the end of days. The screams go on and on, time seems to stand still, and the scream seemed to go on forever. In truth though, the screams only last for 13 seconds, a short time, but one can understand why it might seem much longer. All the residents, but one, feel the ground shake and hear the screams. Johnny Walker feels and hears absolutely nothing. Johnny snores on as the ground shakes, then he rolls over as the screams start, but he never wakes up. Johnny sleeps on, sleeping the sleep of the drunk, he never feels or hears a thing. Everyone else in Pleasantview feels the ground shake, and hear the screams. They are scared, as would be expected. Most residents are sleeping again within the hour, but the sleep is shallow, the residents are waiting uneasily for something else to happen. Nothing else happens that night, not a thing. The residents move on with their lives, the incident isnt forgotten, it wont be forgotten, they will remember it well. The residents unconsciously wait for something else to happen, they wait for a long time, one year to be exact.
