Im working on the post for the opening of sales for the fun(d)raiser for Buck Helton, who has had a LOT of appointments this last week as he works to heal the last diabetic ulcer on his right foot so he can be approved for and schedule the major life saving spinal surgery he was to have this month. He is at Casas Adobes nursing home in NW Tucson, and there are both better things happening for him but also increasing symptoms that show his spine is compressing more. There will be an update soon for friends and fans. What I wanted to share with you now are two of the happy events that happened this week with Buck. Tuesday, Nancie Roahrig brought her Clydesdale JJ and her pony Dillon to Casas Adobes and Buck got his first up close encounter with a Clydesdale and he says this visit is one of the best times of his life. In one of the pictures here, Nancie sings and claps along with a round of Jingle Bells Buck led and in another, Buck takes a walk with Nancie and JJ and sings Back in the Saddle Again to them. Buck sang several songs to the horses and residents and hugged the stuffing out of the horses. Yesterday morning, Buck gave a delightful Christmas Concert to the residents that got toes tapping, people clapping and singing. At the end of the concert, several people came up to chat and one gal said that there wasnt much Christmas in her Christmas this year and I held her as she cried, and afterwards Buck got her smiling with more stories and a song. This fundraiser comes at a much needed time for Buck, as he is putting all his effort into healing (and there is no ability for him to work and disability wont answer whether they will help him until at least January 27th). Folks helping him out and loving him are lifting his spirits, and as Buck hasnt had much Christmas in his Christmas for many years, this is a beautiful thing and he is so grateful. He sends you all love and a wish for a MERRY CHRISTMAS!
