Imagine that, another ex-soldier going on a shooting rampage. Former Marine Sgt. Bradley William Stone, 35, is currently on the run after allegedly killing six of his estranged family members, among them his ex-wife. What is so tragically sad is that the American Public will offer condolences to Stones victims but will offer no tangible solutions in stemming the rising tide of veteran-related homicides and suicides. In fact, they will continue embracing the very circumstances that made Stones onslaught possible: Servitude to the military. Stones murderous rampage would not have occurred albeit his decision to lease his body to the U.S. Government. As a result of joining the military, Stone was placed in a war zone where he was forced to kill people resisting his presence. It was this experience that caused Stone to develop PTSD, the PTSD which prompted his decision to gun down his family. This is the unfortunate fact that most Americans remain impervious to: By embracing military service, they are putting themselves and their loved ones at risk. Not only are we all at risk of a deranged veteran turning his delusions into murderous acts, we are also at risk of retaliatory acts of violence staged by opponents of U.S. sponsored wars, as witnessed during the Fort Hoot shootings and Marathon Bombing. However, most Americans have it completely backwards. They believe that the soldiers are protecting them from people who meant them no harm prior to their soldiers bombing and occupying their lands. The detachment from reality is no accident, it is a deliberate consequence of propaganda spun by the corporate media. Americans have been isolated from cause and effect and I doubt this trend will change in the foreseeable future. Unfortunate for most troop supporters, SUPPORT OUR TROOPS OR MOVE TO NORTH KOREA will do very little to negate the hazards that accompany mass murder.
