Imbeba one side and abantu one side. Split looms in MDC-T as party expels members Posted by: Makhosi Sibanda August 8, 2013 A storm is brewing within the MDC-T camp in Bulawayo after more than 400 members were reportedly expelled on allegations of working against the party during the recently held harmonized elections. A source said the party started serving the expelled members drawn from across the wards with letters of expulsion on Wednesday. The expulsions come in the wake of six members standing as independents in the harmonized polls after falling down the packing order. An official who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed the development. “About 400 members have been shown the door. The leadership claimed that they were working against the party in the just ended polls by decampaigning the party and campaigning for the rebels,” said the official. A letter of expulsion shown to this publication originating from the party’s Lobengula District took a swipe at the expelled members for working “hand in hand with independent candidates”. “Lobengula district executive wishes to inform you that in accordance with the party constitution that you are no longer a member of the MDC-T party due to your illegal conduct during the recent harmonised elections. You were working hand in hand with independent candidates in undermining and decampaigning elected party candidates for harmonised election.” The party’s national spokesperson, Mr Douglas Mwonzora said his office was not aware of the development.
