Impi look to step closer to final FNB TUT Vikings welcome FNB UKZN Impi to Pretoria for a Round Nine Varsity Shield encounter on Monday. The Impi will travel to TUT looking to consolidate their position on the standings as the Final approaches. UKZN lie second, 15 points behind leaders FNB CUT, but more importantly one point ahead of FNB UWC and three ahead of FNB UFH Blues. They have a game in hand over UWC, so a win in this game will be a vital step towards securing their position and booking a place in the final. John Mitchell’s side come off a bye week but will be looking to improve on their form as they haven’t managed a win in their last two games, drawing 18-18 with UFH Blues in Alice and losing 32-33 at home to UWC. TUT lie at the bottom of the standings on 11 points, five adrift of UKZN, so although a spot in the Final looks unlikely, it is not impossible yet. The men from Pretoria made a strong start to the season, winning their first two games, but since then their form has tapered away dramatically. The Vikings have since suffered four straight defeats, three of them by big margins against CUT (18-39), UKZN (8-32) and CUT once more (8-47). They did manage to break their pointless run last week when they secured a losing bonus point in their 17-24 loss to UWC but they will be looking to turn it around and give their fans something to cheer about in their final home match of the season.
