***Important Weather Update for San Patricio Electric Co-op Members and all South Texans*** At 9:21 a.m. on Thursday, we received the following information from the Coastal Weather Research Center. "A strong tropical wave is now emerging into the extreme southern Bay of Campeche after crossing the Yucatan Peninsula. Thunderstorms have increased dramatically over the last few hours along portions of the wave which are now over water and a circulation may be trying to organize. If this system can move far enough away from land later today, a tropical depression may form. The system is expected to move slowly toward the west or west-northwest over the next several days and poses mainly a heavy rain threat to coastal portions of Mexico and possibly southern Texas. Atmospheric environmental conditions favor strengthening of this system should it stay far enough offshore. A reconnaissance aircraft is scheduled to investigate this developing tropical system this afternoon should it continue to show signs of development. The Coastal Weather Research Center will continue to monitor this weather system and a new update will be issued later this afternoon." SPEC will continue to offer updates on this weather system as soon as we receive them.
