2014 Parade of Lights Winners Announced Montrose, CO –The City of Montrose and the Office of Business and Tourism thanks everyone who participated and attended the 2014 Parade of Lights! This year’s theme was, “Christmas Stories: Portray a holiday story from a favorite book, movie, or song.” Entries for the “Best of the 2014 Parade of Lights” were judged on originality, quality, use of theme, and overall appeal. First Place/$250 Montrose Bucks: Weehawken Creative Arts presented “The Polar Express” in celebration of their upcoming performances at the Pavilion December 18th and 19th. Weekhawken dancers performed songs from the movie, and the train was made by Sam Rieatte. Second Place/$150 Montrose Bucks: Adventure World Preschool presented “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” by Dr Seuss. Third Place/$100 Montrose Bucks: Saint Mary Catholic Church presented “Espirito Navideno” (The Spirit of Christmas): “This time of year, we take four weeks to prepare ourselves for the birth of Jesus in our hearts, through prayer, helping our neighbor, with joy and harmony.” Mark your calendars for more holiday fun throughout town! The Garden of Lights will illuminate the Botanic Garden, just south of the Montrose Pavilion Events Center, on December 12-14 and December 19th – 21, from 5-8pm. Saturday, December 13, all day in historic downtown Montrose: Merriment on Main and Second Saturday. The Montrose Community Band will present their free Holiday Concert on Sunday, December 14, from 3-5pm, at the Montrose Pavilion Events Center. The Winter Celebration Arts & Crafts Holiday Show will be at Friendship Hall at the Montrose County Fairgrounds on December 12 (3-7pm) and December 13 (9am-4pm). The Winter Farmers’ Market is open December 6, 13, and 20 at both the Centennial Meeting Room (off of Centennial Plaza) and behind the Straw Hat Farm Store at 514 South 1st Street from 10am-1pm. Santa’s Cabin runs through December 21: Fridays at Timberline Bank (5-7pm) and downtown on Saturdays (11am-2pm) and Sundays (1:30-4:30pm).
