Important and Valuable Presentation Dr Rasem Kayed.. AAYJ in CPRS " Entrepreneurship, Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding in Palestine " Dr. Rasem Kayed (Arab-American University – Jenin, West Bank) While it has been argued that entrepreneurs are capable of making peace work in post conflict zones, the question that this presentation will debate is: Can entrepreneurs initiate and consequently make a tangible contribution towards peace between two national movements that are being locked in a deadly conflict for more than a century over the same piece of land – Palestine? To this end, I will survey a few joint ventures and business partnerships between Palestinian and Israeli entrepreneurs and examine the motives behind such enterprises from both perspectives in order to assess whether they are real peace initiatives or merely ‘marriages of convenience’. Furthermore, I will ask a thought-provoking question: Is entrepreneurship, in reality, an instrument for peacebuilding or another cause fuelling the Palestinian-Israeli conflict? I will conclude by asserting that the issues of trust and conflicting perceptions, beliefs, conventions, interpretations, motives and expectations remain the major obstacles in the way of an entrepreneurship-led peace in the Middle East.
