In 1964 the WSM boys, who owned the Opry, were agonizing about the crowds left on the street and considering new bigger venues against better judgement and someone said why dont we just turn the crowd over half way through the show? A few weeks later you had an early show and a late show and a nightmare of crowd control - but we doubled the ticket revenue overnight. Besides - who could sit on those old benches from 6 p m until midnight anyway? What a great job.
