In 1965 Minneapolis hosted its first MLB All Star game, this week will be its third. The NL teams roster that year consisted of some of the best baseball players in history and contributed to the games standing as Americas sport. I was 12 at the time and baseball was pretty much what we played all the time, heck Bechtelsville even had its own American Legion team and ball park. The NL line-up that year in batting order was, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Willie Stargell, Dick Allen, Joe Torre, Ernie Banks, Pete Rose, and Maury Wills. Non-starters were Billy Williams, Ron Santo, Frank Robinson and Roberto Clemente. Pitchers were Juan Marichal, Sandy Koufax and Bob Gibson. The National league won 6-5. THAT was baseball!! and what a good time it was.
