In 1966, CPL was giving us a glimpse into the future. Who would have ever thought that the clothesline would become virtually extinct! Not me. My Mom resisted until the 1990s, and even then would still insist on hanging out towels, etc. She said that they smelled fresher. The old clothesline poles had long since rotted away, but she had my Dad string a line between the garage and the fence. As an interesting side note....my wife and I were traveling in Italy this summer and saw clothes lines EVERYWHERE! Almost every balcony had clothes hanging from them! The Italian guide said that very few people in Italy use dryers. Maybe they know something that we dont.
