In 1967 or so , the late Capt Colin Decruz was chief officer and i ws uncertified third officer on a ship --One day prior his signing off frm the ship ,he told me tht he had a HUGE bank balance of rs.25000 and need not worry abt his old age --Those days one cud buy two flats of 2BHK each in Pali hill, Bandra,Mumbai :( Inflation hs totally wiped off all savings of people who planned carefully --- People hv assets but no liquid cash :( Many older people in Bandra ,hd to let their beautiful bungalows b demolished ( & flats built) bcaus they cud not pay the huge property monthly taxes on the bungalows :( Sad ---
