In 1979 there was a revolution in Iran. Cue Ben Affleck rescuing hostages. Less overtly, there was another revolution in Britain, and one two years later in the United States. Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan came to power. Both launched ambitions redesigns of the social fabric, sending both nations to the political right in a way that really had no recent historic precedent. Few political movements since then have been as consequential, perhaps none. Few political movements have been so demonstrably, immensely harmful to the nations they were inflicted upon. Politics doesnt normally catch my attention, and I hope it doesnt normally catch yours. But Abbott is every bit the equal of Reagan. I just think now is the time to be reading up, to be paying attention. Give him popular support and we could see a very different Australia.
