In 2000 for Bangladesh which is a lot poorer than the US it was 340 deaths per 100,000 births now (2013) it is 170. It is increasing in the US, but most other countries it seems to be decreasing. In Sri Lanka it was 55 deaths per 100,000 births in 2000, now (2013) it is 29. Comparing the maternal mortality for the US and Sri Lanka, difference is only one. In the year 2000 the maternal mortality rate in the United Kingdom was 11, in 2013 it was 8. In 2010 it was 11 deaths per 100,000 births in the United Kingdom. Canada had a MMR of 6 in 1990, but it is 11 in 2013.
