In 2000, the UN Security Council passed its first ever resolution on women, peace, and security. Resolution 1325 recognized the disproportionate impact of armed conflict on women, and stressed the importance of womens equal and full participation in all aspects of conflict prevention and peace building. This Guardian op ed by researcher Laurel Stone sets out her research findings on the positive impact which the inclusion of women in these processes has. She finds that it increases the probability of ending violence within a year by 24 per cent. Laurel Stone emphasizes the importance of local women being involved; she raises the prospect of increasing the chances of ending the horrific conflict in South Sudan if women could be included more in the negotiations which are dragging on between the warring parties. UNDP has played a role in supporting women in a range of settings to be part of the peace process. Full implementation of SCR 1325 is still not apparent in processes aimed at ending conflicts....this research suggests that our world would be more peaceful if it was implemented in full! theguardian/global-development-professionals-network/2014/aug/11/women-conflict-peace-society?CMP=twt_gu
