In 2001, got my employer & coworkers to donate over $1,500 in toys & clothes to the American Red Cross for Christmas gifts FOR a particular program that helped children of migrant workers in Homestead, FL. When I showed up at the event where the gifts were to be distributed, I was told that the ARD had decided to give the gifts to another group of kids. I found out that they were African American kids in a nearby after-school program. The reason I was given was "...migrant kids (euphemism for Hispanic) would migrate again. They would have to leave the toys & clothes behind. I HAVE NEVER DONATED ANOTHER PENNY TO THE AMERICAN RED CROSSS & I NEVER WILL.
