In 2009 I passed my matric and had a chance in 2010 to go and pursue my Social Work degree at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU). Passed my 1st year and when doing my second year I dropped out, without finishing the degree, because I found Social Work less interesting for me. Let me say it was not my call. November 2011, I left Port Elizabeth for Johannesburg. Did a Call Centre Diploma at Quest Computer Skills Centre. Right after my graduation I got a job at CallForce Direct, a recruitment firm in Sandton to work there as a Recruitment Consultant. I enjoyed the recruitment process, from posting the job advert, receiving people’s responses to a job, shortlisting them for interviews up to placing them into desired jobs. I learned one thing from all that, some people, especial those who are hungry for success, do try their luck, hoping that it will work out at the end. I remember receiving CV’s with few requirements that are needed for the job. Unfortunately, my contract ended with CallForce and I was asked by parents to go back to school and finish up the Social Work degree. In 2012 at University of the Western Cape (UWC) I continued with Bachelor of Social Work degree, but still I couldn’t finish it. As much as I love helping other people to be able to help themselves, and willing to go the extra mile to make sure their needs and wants are met, but I guess Social Work was not for me. I again dropped out of varsity. My parents couldn’t understand the reason why I couldn’t finish my degree, neither I. Sometimes in life we take decisions that we don’t even know why we take them, but still take them. Choosing to let go of social work led me to be a Social Innovator, a person who looks for social problems and ills within our respective communities and find innovative solutions to solve them. January 2013, I co-founded a community based non-profit organization called Phinda For Change, which comes from a Xhosa word ‘Phinda – meaning ‘Do it again”. I started this after seeing that many young people in Khayelitsha, and Cape Town at large, find it hard to get jobs or start up their own businesses after they have failed to follow the system that determines success in our societies. My aim was to recycle and restore lives of young South Africans who have failed the first round of life through skills development and empowerment, creating space of opportunities to let them actually participate in activities that seek to empower their minds in order for them to be self-made and/or start up their own businesses. Through my social innovation I met up with a young social entrepreneur, Sizwe Nzima who was just recently founded Iyeza Express, a social enterprise that focuses on collecting and delivering chronic medication from public health facilities to patient’s doorsteps. We became business partners, along with Wandisile Nqeketho and Siyabulela Daweti. This was the time I ended up finding my call. I started doing motivational speaking, to motivate and empower other people to stand up and find their calling. I believe that everyone has a destiny, it’s just that we lack to find right paths to our destiny. Sizwe was the Managing Director and I became the Operations and Sales Manager of Iyeza Express. Wandisile and Siyabulela founded another social enterprise, Ilima Green Solutions, which was the first recycling company in Khayelitsha that aimed to keep our community clean by promoting recycling in the townships. So then, innovation was what we speak, eat, and breathe as we are still doing that now. Another baby was born, 18 Gangster Museum, a museum that aims to tackle gangsterism in Khayelitsha by educating people about gangsterism, it’s origin and it’s effects on our lives. Then Athenkosi Mongo joined the team and was up to managing the gangster museum. If you want to succeed in life, associate yourself with the right people. These four gentlemen were the right people to climb the mountain with. Early this year here on facebook I was inspired by Thembinkosi Matika who always posted uBunzulu he would say and I ended up getting him as my personal coach, because in life in order for you to grow get people that will help you achieve your dreams. From our coaching relationship we ended up being business associates ( thembinkosimatika ). Now I am a well paid speaker, business coach and mentor at Growth Business Consultancy - Pty Ltd. who believes that everyone has a seed of greatness in them #BubuKhosi. #About_Me
