In 2013, the United Nation’s 57th Commission on the Status of Women and the Woman-Child focused on the inclusion of “girls” in the international conversation about issues that impact the lives of women - but there was a problem. In many dialects around the world, there is no word for “girl”; in those dialects the word “child” is a masculine word. In many parts of the world, girls have no value until they are a commodity, until they are women…up until then, they simply do not exist.
