In 3 weeks, a lot can happen!!! Literally 22 days ago, I met the group of 15 – 17 year olds that I would be supporting to build their own social action project. 11 very different individuals, with a huge array of backgrounds, beliefs, and interests. Week 1 was team building exercises on a campsite. During many of the competitions, we came last or 2nd to last. The competitive members hated that. However in comparison to the other groups, they formed such a tight bond. Literally they would all hang out with each other. The best thing I saw from them, is that they allowed each other to be authentic. They encouraged their uniqueness. I know at this point, that they would go on to kick some serious ass! Week 2 was more around starting to form their own social action project. One member talked about body image, and the negative effect on photo shopped images to promote a negative body image amongst teams. Although she didn’t think the idea was good, the team loved it and all got behind it. There was also a day where each group had to complete various challenges around town. And they literally owned it! Watching a group of teens deal with rejection and failure, yet continue moving forward was one of the best experiences that I’ve ever had. One challenged involved picking up a shopping list of 15 items to give to a food bank. My group not only got all 15 items, but got them for free! Why? Because when the first shop said no to a discount, they moved to the next one. And when the next one said no, they continued. Week 3, I basically sat there n watched them apply all the ideas of what they wanted to do for their social action project. This video is the result of that. Along with 513 FB page likes. And over 350 people doing a #myhealthieselfie And this is just the beginning. Watch out for Transparent , for they will take the world by storm!!!
