In Acts 11 we see the Church experiencing “growing pains.” On the one hand there is criticism and suspicion over mission outreach by some of the established believers. Peter’s meeting and eating with the Gentiles is being questioned as is Saul the persecutor turned Paul the Evangelist’s similar work. On the other there is enthusiasm by others over sinners being saved, the continued outpouring of the Holy Spirit and the loving sacrifice by many to use their plenty to help feed the hungry. Do those attitudes sound and feel familiar? They are still part of the church today reminding us that we are not a gathering of perfected saints but one of forgiven sinners who need such forgiveness regularly and who need each other to keep our criticisms in check and our love flowing.
