In America, government employees who rape children are let off while Mundanes who try to grow a plant are thrown in a cage. The deeper one digs into the corruption within court systems in the US, the more Justice looks like Just Us. Government police cannot be reformed; the incentives to misbehave and cover up are simply too great. Over a thousand Americans a year are killed by police: KilledByPolice.net If a Mundane would be thrown in jail for an act, then the same act by a government employee should be treated exactly the same. We are not supposed to have a nobility in this country! Defenders of the Police State always come back with Well, police are necessary. Well, actually, yes they are -- but if the assumption is that a cop or police officer has to be an employee of the government, then no, cops are absolutely NOT necessary. There are ways to keep the peace and mitigate crime that dont require government employment and all of the corruption that is endemic to that model. The disconnect here is many people mistakenly equate no government police with no police. Crime control can be accomplished in the private sector at MUCH lower cost and with much less random un-punished violence than is the case with a government enterprise. Governments are blunt objects of brute force. There being several million government-employed cops, thats the first thing that needs to change. Millions of government *anything* is a dangerous situation. There are already plenty of ways the market hires itself protection. In fact governments are so universally bad at protecting people and property that the private sector must hire three or four million extra police (look in your Yellow Pages under security) and billions of dollars of insurance to make sure the harms of crime are mitigated as much as possible. Government policing cannot be reformed. There are simply too many corrupting influences. Only Libertarians seek an end to special privileges for government employees.
