In August of 2011, I decided to start chasing one of my dreams. - TopicsExpress

In August of 2011, I decided to start chasing one of my dreams. Hannah and I were in a good house, I had a decent job, and we were happy. But something was missing. I have always wanted a large family with lots of kids and excitement and cuddles and laughter. So my daughter Hannah and I sat down, had a long talk and decided that it was time to make a change. The next day, I filled out a preliminary application for international adoption. The adoption agency contacted me shortly thereafter and I had a lovely conversation with a social worker. She explained their program, the pros and cons, the difficulties and the joys of adopting and I was completely hooked. This was exactly what I was looking for; this is how I wanted my family to grow. By April of 2012, I had filled out mountains of paperwork, had my house inspected by multiple organizations, sat down for interviews, and volunteered several friends as referrals. Hannah and I were approved by both the United States and Ethiopia as an appropriate adoptive family! All we had to do was to wait for a referral before we could meet her sister. So we waited… and waited. There were changes to the administrative side of the adoption process, there were slow-downs, and there was frustration. We are still waiting 28 months later, but are hopeful that a referral will be coming in the next few months. We have moved up on the waiting list and are expecting to hear good news before the end of the year! With all that said, Hannah and I have decided to put some of this waiting time to good use. Adoption is an extremely expensive process, not only are there the agency and legal fees, I will also have to travel to Ethiopia two times. One visit is a court visit and the opportunity to meet my new little girl and then about six weeks later I will get to go back to pick her up and bring her home. We have budgeted, researched grants and loans, and will be taking advantage of tax credits as we can, but there’s still an excess of expenses. So I’m asking for your help. I have recently become an awesome custom pillow maker (of course that’s Hannah’s opinion!) and have decided to try to sell these pillows as a way of earning a little extra money to help with adoption expenses. I sew them, Hannah stuffs them and you’ll get to enjoy them! You can pick colors or a theme and I’ll do my best to accommodate. I’ve enclosed a couple of pictures of Hannah’s two favorite pillows as an example of our work. I’m hoping to sell these for $15 for a solid color pillows (such as the orange and green in the pictures) and $20 for a pillow with a design (like the polka dots or owls in the pictures) with all profit going directly to my adoption fund. Please let me know if you’re interested in ordering a “Joyful Pillow”! All you have to do is let us know a theme or color scheme and well take care of the rest! And feel free to pass on to friends and family :) Thanks for all your support! Kim & Hannah
