In: Chapter One The decision to seek greener pastures page 23; Striving for Educational Aspirations At last, on the evening of 16 October 1971 at Kemayoran Airport we said goodbye to our many relatives and friends who were in tears and wished us all the best of luck for everything that we had planned in the new country called New Zealand. We then realised that we had come to the point of no return. Finally we were to leave our hometown, our beloved friends and relatives for a better place to live with a brighter future for our family of five. As our Church Minister prayed for us a couple of minutes before the boarding time the crowd fell silent. We felt the serenity helped to reinforce our belief that God must have a purpose in sending us to a strange land called New Zealand and into His hands we committed our lives. For the so many kind people who were at the airport to farewell us, they could feel that the moment was near. And at the moment there was a cry until finally, the cry became a barely audible whisper as we moved on into the passenger-only are.
