In Costa Rica, the Ronald McDonald House Charities operates since 2002 and up until today it has donated over one million dollars in specific projects for Costa Rican children. The mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities is to create, find and support programs that directly benefit the health and welfare of Costa Rican children. This Foundation is composed by people who share the desire to help the society, and with the support of private enterprise have focused in providing solutions to the most critical needs affecting our children; identifying specific causes that help improve the quality of life of our children and adolescents. The Ronald McDonald’s House can be defined in the following 5 words: “A Home Away from Home.” In Costa Rica, 30% of children served by the National Children’s Hospital reside more than 80 miles away from this hospital. Every year, more than 22,565 patients (approximately 16%) of the children were lost to distance-related and socioeconomic status of the families’ circumstances.The Ronald McDonald´s House in Costa Rica will be fully accessible to all families who need it,after evaluation and reference from Social Work Service of the National Children’s Hospital. This year, both Elementary and Preschool are focusing in supporting this cause through the Fun and Reflection activity. Each student will have the opportunity to make a kite with his parents at the institution;materials will be provided.They constructed and flyed kites with a positive message of support for Ronald McDonald’s House. For this activity we requested a donation of at least ¢1.500 (1.500 colones).
