In February 1942, the Seattle School Board accepted the forced resignation of 27 Japanese-American School Clerks who, following the attack on Pearl Harbor and the start of WWII, had been told they could either resign their positions or they would be fired. These 27 young Americans were singled out solely because of their race. In 1984, the School Board granted redress to these 27 women and placed a plaque commemorating this injustice in the District Headquarters building. In the move to the new School District Building, however, the plaque was lost. Under the leadership of the Seattle Japanese American Citizens League, a new one was made, and this new plaque will be presented to the Seattle School Board at their next meeting: Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at 4:15 PM Seattle School District Board Meeting, Ground floor auditorium Seattle Public Schools, John Stanford Center for Educational Excellence 2445 3rd Avenue South, Seattle, WA 98134
