In His Midst Last nights park ministry presented great opportunities: First, the regular families that seem to show are beginning to indicate they might stop by our Sunday service. This is always good to hear. Also, a local landlord stopped by to ask us who we are and what we are doing--it was a friendly visit. He is grateful that we are there. He took the time to give the parks history over the last 15 years or so and how the neighbors of the park stepped up to have it cleaned up and safer for children and families. He indicated they were regathering the neighborhood group to plan for the future and invited me, the pastor of CPC in The Hill, to join their neighborhood group. This is a great opportunity for our church. And finally, as Maxine said Wednesday evening, We got them. What she meant is that the park guests and neighbors are comfortable with us and, along with the food we were sharing, they are willing to give an ear to a short Bible message. And she was right: I gave a message before we prayed for the meal and the people all stayed, and those further away even moved across the park to listen (and eat of course). The short message was on Romans 5:8, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. I shared how there is one, true equalizer; one thing that makes us all equal as people: we are equally sinners and in need of forgiveness. Our neighbors, our friends, our families, even those we have a hard time with and our enemies--all need Gods forgiveness. The good people of the park listened. May Gods word work its mystery in their hearts.
