In Islaam, we are taught a principle that our bodies have rights - TopicsExpress

In Islaam, we are taught a principle that our bodies have rights over us [1]. And while the cause of this statement from Prophet Muhammad, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, was due to an imbalanced participation in fasting and voluntary night prayers, some believe this statement can also apply to our responsibility to take of our bodies. The two best ways of keeping ourselves healthy are maintaining a healthy diet and a regular schedule of exercise. While many of us have lives full of responsibilities, we must always remember to take time out for ourselves. If were not at our best, we will not be able to provide our best to those around us. Aside from a healthy diet (will come back to this in a future post), one of the simplest types of exercise to do is walking. If you live in an area near friends and family, setup a regular walking time. It can be easier and more enjoyable to walk with others than by ourselves, for safety and satisfaction reasons. The Heart Truth campaign, a national campaign sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), focuses on helping women become aware of the dangers of heart disease, the #1 cause of death of women (yes, heart disease kills more women than cancer each year). During their studies, the organization has found physical inactivity greatly increases our risk of heart disease. To ward off the risks of heart disease, they recommend a weekly minimum of 2 1/2 hours of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise. So ladies, lets get out and walk our way to a healthy heart!
