In January 2013, Crystals common laws partner - Carl Balan was originally charged with interference of care, control, and view of a motor vehicle x2. The deaths of Jeannie and Brittney resulted in Crystal Vandals actions. Its proven forensically that she was driving at a MINIMUM of 103km/h in a 60km/hr zone by a crime scene reconstruction analysis. It was stated to police that she took her hands off of the wheel to reach down to pick up something off the floor. When the crime scene analysis came back, proving that she was driving a minimum of 103km/h in a 60km/h zone, the police confronted them with the new evidence resulting in Carl Balan admitting that he feared for his safety and well being while she was driving that fast. He tried to avoid a collision and grabbed the steering wheel in an act to save his own life resulting in him being released of the charges against him. After the charges were dropped, police pursued dangerous driving causing death against Crystal Vandal. The crown (Craig Savage) brought it before other crown attorneys to review the case deciding against the Winnipeg Polices recommendation of dangerous driving causing death due to the conviction rate being so low. Speeding and distracting motorists should be punished accordingly to the laws that are supposed to be in place for them.
