In January we are going to apply to artist alley at a local anime con and you have to have things in your portfolio relevant to anime and or Japanese culture. So I have been looking for things to make that would qualify. since todays theme was rain I thought it would be the perfect chance. This is my take on an Ameonna. As I understand it, it is a rain goddess or spirit represented by a woman licking rain off her hand. I am dependent on google and Wikipedia for this information so maybe it is off. Ameonna (雨女, rain woman) is a female spirit illustrated in Toriyama Sekiens Konjaku Hyakki Shūi as a woman standing in the rain and licking her hand. She is described as a goddess from Chinas Mount Wushan, who is a cloud in the morning and rain in the evening. She may be considered a rain-bringer for crops. In modern usage in Japan, ameonna (or the male equivalent ameotoko) refers to an unlucky person that seems to be jinxed to have the rain follow them wherever they may go, thus gaining a reputation for ruining special events such as weddings or sporting events. #sculptober
