In Napoleon HIlls book, Think and Grow Rich (which doesnt necessarily equate to monetary riches), the fear of poverty is listed first. Most of the people who came here fear poverty as they were slaves to kings and queens, to royalty who possessed everything and to which the people were mere pions and tools for their own desires. We know the fear of poverty exists because of hoarding when there is a shortage or to take all instead of just what you need. Here is what Napoleons books says: Fear of Poverty is, without doubt, the most destructive of the six basic fears. It has been placed at the head of the list, because it is the most difficult to master. Considerable courage is required to state the truth about the origin of this fear, and still greater courage to accept the truth after it has been stated. The fear of poverty grew out of mans inherited tendency to PREY UPON HIS FELLOWMAN ECONOMICALLY. Nearly all animals lower than man are motivated by instinct, but their capacity to think is limited, therefore, they prey upon one another physically. Man, with his superior sense of intuition, with the capacity to think and to reason, does not eat his fellowman bodily, he gets more satisfaction out of eating him FINANCIALLY. Man is so avaricious that every conceivable law has been passed to safeguard him from his fellowman. So, when you see that price tag that says sale.. or when you are out there considering a gift for your loved ones, you might overcome your fear and instead think of what you could give of yourself to those around you. Perhaps, something like: I will do the dishes for a month on Wednesdays, or I will wash your car, or some other deed you can give. There is much you can do for your community, give blood or volunteer to clean the rivers....just sayin what is the opposite of fear of poverty? Desire. Fearing poverty is a state of mind. We have different dominating fears but the fear of poverty is what everyone who came to the americas fear. symptoms of fear of poverty: indifference, indecision, doubt, worry, over caution, procrastination. I come from the poorest of the poor and often we did not have food. My mother would tell us children, even the birds and animals are taken care of and so will be be taken care of, a true statement as from somewhere through her desires to feed her children would come food--from the hunt or fishing or to the neighbor would bring sugar or flour. Money is the commodity from which we all gain our nourishment, literally, these days, gone are the small farms that could be gleaned, gone are the people who shared their bounty. Money is energy and so we ought to be thinking of that energy as as a reserve from which we can pull through our desires to open doors, to present opportunities to develop our potential and it is our potential to help our fellow beings, to uplift them in some way however small, which could include a smile. Napoleon Hill talks about vibration of thought. Our thoughts are vibrations that people pick up and when our fears interfere with positive thought, then others do not want to open doors for you, or help you achieve your personal desires for success. When we think of ourselves as capable of doing what it is we set out to do, others do pick that up and are willing to allow you to move forward; they wont block. Napoleons book does not consider all and his original intent was to populate the idea of riches, not only financial, but in all the ways we bring richness of the soul-spirit to us as it is the desire of the spirit to gift you its potential, but it is a good starting point and one from which my teacher-guide began his quest to open himself to his higher consciousness. We look outside ourselves for everything but we do not often look at the mind(s) as the ultimate vehicle for our beliefs. And, what we believe is true. amazon/Think-Grow-Rich-Financial-Wealth/dp/1557427836
