In Oct 1962 a couple with their month old baby daughter moved into 10 Sharpe Ave. Over the next 52 years, another daughter was born, dogs of different breeds joined the family and made the house their home. The lawn would be tended, the house decorated depending on the season or holiday, driveway shoveled in the winter, shrubs and flowers planted, dug up and replanted. Trees would be planted, some bring destroyed by unexpected storms over the years but one special tree from the family nursery would thrive and provide protection from the elements. Not much would change inside the house, furniture would be updated, walls painted but not much else. Holidays, birthdays, sleepovers, family gatherings would be celebrated. It would be where the girls spent their childhood with the Muscatellos across the street and Costellos down the street, in a neighborhood where we would go home when the street lights came on. The oldest daughter would graduate, attend college and move out to start her own life, eventually getting married and moving all across the country but still would have a home at 10 Shape Ave. The father would pass away unexpectedly. The youngest daughter would graduate too and eventually move out to establish her own life, getting married and starting her own family. But again 10 Sharpe would still be her home. The mother would maintain the house for as long as possible before dementia made it unsafe for her to stay there. Today we officially sold 10 Sharpe to a young couple and their dog who will start their own family and memories. But for me and my sister and our mother 10 Sharpe will always be our home, no matter who lives lives there now.
