In October 1973, President Richard Nixon wanted to fire watergate special prosecutor Archibald Cox because, frankly, he was getting too close. He told his attorney general Elliot Richardson to fire Cox. Richardson refused and resigned. The president then ordered the deputy attorney general (whoever that was) to fire Cox. HE refused and resigned. 3rd in line in the pecking order over at Justice finally complied and fired the special prosecutor. It happened over a saturday night, and became known by the press as the Saturday Night Massacre and denoted the beginning of the real downfall of the Nixon administration. With the sudden departure of Chuck Anderson and Jay Corn, last night was USPSAs Monday Night Massacre.
