In Pursuit of Happiness? Happiness is the result of our actions. Yet, It’s not the reason for our actions. Happiness is a great thing, but it’s the by-product of the choices we make. When I hear folks say to their spouse or partners, I promise to make you happy.” I want to tell them, No! You can’t keep that promise. It’s impossible because, you are not God!” One of the overwhelming reasons people cite for divorce is “I deserve to be happy”? This is because, folks put their faith in their spouse to make them happy; it’s only a matter of time until they let you down. Indeed, our whole mindset on happiness is deeply flawed. Saying, “I deserve to be happy, is the same as saying, I deserve to be rich. We often think that we have right to pursue happiness, yet, all of life is a gift from the Creator- God. Happiness is not a right. It’s a gift. Wealth is not a right. It is a gift. Let me use the word grace. Your happiness is in your own hands. No one owes you happiness. What you make of it and your personal choices will be responsible for your happiness. Perhaps, what you want to tell your spouse or partner today is, I will make your life with me exciting, and from that excitement, you determine your happiness. When next a boy or girlfriend, wife or husband, claims they are not happy, tell them to pray to their creator for happiness. Sounds mean? Yes! But its right. Because, what makes you happy may not make your partner happiness, so how are you going to fulfil your promise to keep them happy, having started wrongly? God bless. (MIU, August. 2014).
