I have always thought it a bit manipulative to say, If you love me (or like me in some cases), youll listen to me right now! But today I am saying If you love me, youll listen to me! I feel that giving you a statistic or asking you to wear a certain color for Autism Awareness Month isnt going to do jack-crack about actual awareness, although I am grateful for all of those that do spread that word. Awareness to me is education. Disposing of ignorance or lack of knowledge. So, my personal goal for this month is to give actual information (thru short videos, quick thoughts or little anecdotes) that helps to create an understanding by trying to paint a picture of what life is like with Autism (the good and the not-so) and what great things CAN come from having autism. Thats awareness to me. PLEASE DONT GET ME WRONG. Youve heard me complain a little (in a very watered down version- trust me- I keep it tame for FB) about some of the stuff that happens over here- but all parents do, and thanks to FB, you now to get to enjoy it too (joy). Isnt that part of friendship? Hearing whats up with each other and providing either support or a swift ass kicking when needed? Its not all a party. I hate autism sometimes, but I love, love, love my amazing kids and the way they think and that they just ARE. Im really not sure that they would be so out-of-the-box and interesting as they are without being neurologically different as its so-called. They will incredible people that will be most assuredly be enriching to know. And honestly, I kinda think they might both do some pretty amazing shit- like be particularly talented, despite the regular joes that they come from. All I ask, is that this month you endure my sporadic and hopefully interesting tidbits of what I can only attempt to convey to you about Autism, because its all. over. the. place. It really is. I you like my rants, feel free to share them or tag a friend that you want to read it and if you dont like em- block them. But really- whats the worst that can happen?
