In Pursuit of Zion we should probably address the issue of education. Our current mode of education is based on three assumptions: 1. Students learn best from a teacher. 2. The teacher (or tradition, or the Curriculum Director) knows whats best for the student to learn. 3. Children often must be compelled to learn what we know is best for them. Whats the likelihood that any or all of these three assumptions are valid? What are the chances that an educational model based on these three assumptions is of a Celestial order, or even Terrestrial? D&C 105:5 makes it easy to assume that education in a Zion society must be based on Celestial principles. Seems to me that a question deserving of serious consideration is, On what fundamental assumptions would education be based in a Zion society? Lets knock around some ideas.
