In September Kenyas Wilson Kipsang broke the marathon world record in Berlin in a new official best time of 2 hours, 3 minutes and 23 seconds. Lets put that in perspective: He clocked an average pace of around 2:55 minutes per km! Every one of the 5km splits Kipsang ran was sub-15. His fastest 5km split was 14:29 between 15-20km, and his slowest was 14:54 between 20-25km. Kipsang completed all 10km sections of the race in sub-30 pace: 29:17, 29:02, 29:42 and 29:11. So heres the challenge... next time you are on a treadmill or out for a run, try and run 1km at 2:55 minute per km pace... then imagine keeping that pace going for 42.2km!
