In September, Youth Frontiers entertained the incoming 9th grade students at the Freshmen Retreat at Somerset High School. Youth Frontiers is a nonprofit, non-partisan organization that partners with schools to build positive communities. Their vision is to “change the way kids treat each other in every hallway, lunch line and classroom of every school in America” and to create an environment “where students thrive socially, emotionally and academically.” The students had a great day and are utilizing skills that they learned in the presentation. They continue to work on activities to set goals for developing positive social skills, academic habits, and college and career preparation. These weekly sessions are led by junior and senior peer mentors, who receive guidance from high school counseling and AODA staff.
