In The Potters Hands This is the word that came to Jeremiah - TopicsExpress

In The Potters Hands This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: “Go down to the potter’s house, and there I will give you my message.” So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel. But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him. Then the word of the Lord came to me. He said, “Can I not do with you, Israel, as this potter does?” declares the Lord. “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, Israel. (Jeremiah 18:1-6 NIV) Have you ever taken the time to understand the process of pottery making? The potter begins with a genuine design. Long before the Potter begins with the process at the wheel, he must begin with a body of clay. It must be kneaded and wedged (think of flour dough before being shaped/molded) in order to ensure an even moisture content. Thereafter, the clay is put at the wheel and while its turning, its being molded and shaped. Once the final design is reached, its put in the fire. Why fire? Fire changes the current state and creates reactions that lead to permanent changes including increasing their strength and hardening and setting their shape. Once it comes out of the fire, then it can be decorated and put to use. In the spiritual, we are the clay as this word says. We come to the Lord in a state of soil (dirt); dirty and sometimes even smelling. The Lord begins to knead us as a baker kneads flour to create elasticity. Its like when you begin to serve in different ministries to try to find your calling. Then the potter takes the clay and puts it on the wheel to begin shaping/molding. The Lord does the same with us. He begins to mold us by removing any excess and impurities as he shapes us into his grand design. Then comes the fire. In the spiritual, the fire is your test or tribulation. The reason for the fire is to take you into a new level where youre harder and stronger. After passing the fire test, the pottery will be able be put in the fire once again and nothing will happen to it. Instead, it will resist it. The same with you in the spiritual. Once youve been through your fire, you know you can resist many others. Finally, the potter decorates it. The decoration in the spiritual are your blessings. your blessings will come after youve endured the test. So this new year, are you willing to be molded in the wheel of God in order to live in the will of God?
