In a blog I receive daily the scripture passage for the day is from Col 3:13… “Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” The blog went on to give the following example: “ A lady writes: “I found my husband with another woman. Although he begged me for forgiveness, I wanted my pound of flesh, so I filed for divorce even though our kids asked me not to. Two years later my husband was still trying to get me back, but I wanted none of it. He’d hurt me and I wanted revenge. Finally he gave up, married a young widow with two children, and rebuilt his life without me. They’re all so happy, and I’m just a lonely, miserable woman who let bitterness ruin her life.” Now there’s no question that infidelity is wrong. But without forgiveness, what’s left? There’s a point at which anger stops being a healthy emotion and becomes a driving force. When you are bitter, or angry at someone or something, you have a tendency to take it out on others – for no reason. The point to remember is that you cannot let anger control your life. Carrying around anger and letting it control your life continues to make you bitter. It makes it hard to see the good in people. Anger can consume your life. Bitterness kills your soul. When you have bitterness and anger toward someone, look at that person as a child of God. Ask God to help you offer forgiveness to the individual. Remember, probably before the day, the week or the month is out you will be the one needing mercy for yourself. FORGIVE, FOR YOUR OWN SAKE! AND LET THE PEACE AND GRACE OF GOD SHINE THROUGH YOU!
