In a conversation with my brother in regards to Apples Watch: Me: I have mixed feelings. Its a tiny screen, and theres a gold model (which reeks to me of pandering to imbecils), I also think its a bit intrusive, and too visible. I can hide an iPhone. If I was to wear a watch, perhaps it would be cool. However I find them heavy and annoying. All in all, its a me-too device, nothing I consider revolutionary. Brother: yeah, but to be fair other companies only made them cause apple has been rumored to be working on a watch for a while Me: Not really. Heart rate devices and running companion accessories have been on the market for a while. Its only with the Sony Pebble screen theyve started to take off Brother: i would say this is much different than a single purpose device Me: It is, but everything it does can be done with the iPhone, except monitor vitals. The constant always on connection to the human body is the key differentiator. Also, data like vitals is more personal than anything a device has generated previously. How it is safeguarded is important to me. I find that technology and the rate of advancement to be outpacing our own understanding of our body as a bioenergetic organism, and rapidly outpacing the moral dilemmas presented. Transhumanism to me is something we need to consider in some depth before racing headlong into borg-dom. Just because we can do it doesnt mean we should. What we do needs to be aligned with greater understanding of ourselves holistically. The last thing I would want is to sow the seeds for human consciousness to be locked inside a jail cell of a machine body.
