In a first conviction of its kind, an additional district and sessions court of Rohtak on Tuesday slapped life sentence on three and 10 year rigorous imprisonment for two women after they were held guilty of Acid attack on National Volley Ball player Ritu Saini, at Rohtak in May 2012. Identified as Ram Niwas, Pardeep and Neeraj, the main convicts have been sentenced life imprisonment. While Raj Puri a shopkeep from where convicts had bought the acid and Manjeet Kumar the convict who arranged motorcycle for accused have sentenced for 10 year rigorous imprisonment. The court acquitted Sohan Lal, Sanjay Verma and Ram Niwass mother Rajwanti for the want of sufficient evidence against them. The decision came from the court of Sandeep Duggal, an additional district and sessions judge who also directed all the convicts to pay a compensation of Rs 50,000 each to the victim with immediate effect. The incident occurred on May 25, 2012 when three motorcycle borne men identified as Neeraj and Pardeep threw acid on Ritu near Prem Nagar chowk of Rohtak. During investigations it was found that the two persons were hired by Ritus first cousin Ram Niwas, a resident of Jamni village of Jind. During investigations it was found that Ram Niwas had differences with Ritus family over the issue of property dispute. He had lured Neeraj and Pardeep for acid attack for Rs 1. 50 lakh. He also helped the two in identifying Ritu when the two were chasing her on motorcycle arranged by Manjeet. How the case was cracked According to prosecution, the police had put the mobile phones of all the relatives and friends of ritu Saini under survillance. During investigations it was found that Ram Niwas was in touch with Ritu to ascertain her location. While Pardeep and Neeraj were chasing Ritu on motorcycle, Ram Niwas was also following them in his Alto car. Police zeroed in on him as his mobile location was traced near the place of occurence.
