In a heartfelt message, a Cal Heights mom requests support from her community: My son, Kyle Smith, was born and raised in Cal Heights attending Longfellow, Hughes, LB Poly and CSULB. Four years ago he and his wife, Samantha, moved to Colorado due to a job relocation. They had their 1st baby, Chet, 7 weeks ago. He was born without any eyes and a nasal passageway that was completely blocked with bone. Nostril openings had to be created. These are 2 very, very rare and serious medical conditions. Their story has been televised on 3 different news stations in Denver. They are currently living in a terrific community, Castle Rock, that has been giving them tremendous support throughout this new life-changing experience. I like to think that Kyle, having been raised in a family-oriented neighborhood such as Cal Heights, contributed to him becoming a young man of strength and character, able to give unconditional love to his newborn son. Positive thoughts and prayers from Kyles home neighborhood would be greatly appreciated. If you are so inclined to donate, a fund has been established by their friends in Colorado to help alleviate Chets mounting medical bills. This donation site can be found at gofundme/ak2zws Chet will visit Cal Heights as often as possible with his parents since his Mom/Grandma still lives here. Thank you, Susie Heffernan Carter
