In a parallel universe I wonder what would have happened if one seemingly small decision was made differently. Would my kids have your smile? Would your kids have my humor? One small decision, one huge leap and everything would have been different. Maybe you wouldnt have been hurt, maybe I wouldnt have suffered loss, maybe we wouldnt have these scars. Or... ...Maybe we would have torn each other apart, not speaking now but with brief cordial words seasoned with veiled disgust. Or is it as the lamenting author wrote, For everything there is a season? But why would this season have arrived so late? Wouldnt we have been spared tragedy and the subsequent formation these cursed scars? Or... ... Maybe this season our hearts have been made stronger by the pain, more steadfast by the tribulation and more sure of who we are NOW. Survivors. Champions. Overcomers. Maybe the twisted, rocky paths weve stumbled blindly upon have converged at this moment because...maybe we have just now arrived at the season of harvest. And maybe this time we can find strength in the calloused bonds of our scars. Where pain once severed, hope has now bound. And now I find myself thankful for these scars. Our beautiful, lovely scars.
