In a recent shooting in Berkeley, Missouri a young man Antonio Martin was shot dead. He was said to have had a weapon and police are poised to justify the shooting. Across the nation, police are habitually justified in their murders by claiming a fear for their lives. Although MORE citizens are murdered by police, by claiming fear they are let off the hook for their murders. When you count up the number of people murdered yearly by police - it should be the people who have basis to claim fear for their lives. And Antonio Martin being the target of police, is no different. He and others like him, black, poor, and at the mercy of police have genuine reason to fear. Their murders are justified, their guilt is automatically assumed, and they are incarcerated and killed by the thousands. If in fact he possessed a gun he has every reason to do so. For their are none in society who protect lives like his, nor punish those who would murder them unjustly. And when those who do so are law enforcement themselves, what option does he truly have against them? Those who rally and protest against the wrongful murders of those like him are being ordered to cease and desist while those who would speak negatively against those officers are being censored. If he does not look out for himself, who will? Underneath the constitution, he has been guaranteed life and the pursuit of happiness. Yet that right has been tossed aside upon sight. For he is stopped and searched without warrant or reason and held hostage if he neglects to comply. That same constitution which allows Americans to bare arms - can get him killed if he tries to avail himself of that privilege. John Crawford lll availed himself the privilege of shopping in a store in order to buy a toy gun. Yet even in handling the image that was fake he was shot and killed no questions asked. If a man, a black man, a person of color, takes upon him self, that which the country itself rules and reigns by and itself has forced down the throats of its people, in the name of safety and security - how are they right and he wrong?
