In addition: - Even if it was not INTENDED to be a living wage (which it was), it was also not INTENDED to be the default for employers to pay their employees . . who in reality dont have the option of just finding another job because the practice of paying minimum wage has become so widespread that even if you find another job, it wont pay substantially better; - Im tired of hearing this crap about how if you raise the minimum wage for waitstaff above $2.XX an hour, the price of food will go up . . . but you know what? The customers--at least, the responsible ones--wont be paying any more because tips will truly be an optional thing for someone who did a good job, and not something the wait staff relies on; and - Every time the minimum wage has gone up, the economy has skyrocketed. YES, there were a few job losses . . . at first. But within three years, the number of jobs increased to higher rates than before the increase and poverty levels went down by huge amounts.
